Thousands of trees are being planted right across Tendring as part of the council’s drive to improve biodiversity and tackle climate change.
To mark National Tree Week (28 November until 5 December) Tendring District Council (TDC) will plant 500 trees in Valley Walk, Frinton.
This will be followed up with planting of 30,000 trees as part of the Tendring Woodland Initiative Group.
The 30,000 trees mark the 30th anniversary of the Tree Council – which TDC has been part of since it was founded.
Permission has been agreed with local farmers to plant on their land in St Osyth, Kirby Cross, Wix and Great Bromley, while funding has come from the Tree Council and Network Rail.
Planting will start this month and be completed by the end of March 2021.
It had been hoped to invite the community and local schools to tree planting events, but due to current Covid-19 restrictions that is not possible at this time.
The new planting is in addition to the almost 7,500 trees planted since March 2019 under the council’s partnership with Trees for Cities, in Clacton, Dovercourt and Frinton, as well as 330 trees planted in Lawford Dale.
